Tim Cook Auctions Another Lunch Date for CharityBuzz; Bids Currently at $62K

Apr 24 2014 11:22PM EST | Source: MacLife.com

Last year Apple CEO Tim Cook auctioned off a coffee meeting with himself on CharityBuzz, and it was a smashing success (to put it lightly). By the time the bidding ended 20 days later, a staggering $610,000 had been raised. The bidding has started once again over at CharityBuzz as of today, and as before, the proceeds are going to the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights. This time, however, the lucky winner will be treated to a full-fledged lunch with Cook at Apple's headquarters.

The lunch will still only last an hour, but now the winner can bring along a friend. The cost of the meal is included with the winning amount, and the winner must consent to flying to Cupertino at his or her own expense for the meeting on a "mutually agreed upon" date. Last year CharityBuzz listed the value of the hour meeting at $50,000, but after the success of the first go-round, it's now valued at $100,000.

It may hit that by the end of the day. As of the time of writing, the highest bid is $62,500--a number that was reached through the efforts of a mere 12 donors. Fraudulent credit cards were a problem during last year's event, and as a result donors will need to submit to credit card authorization this year before their bids are listed. The auction is scheduled to end on May 13.

The RFK Center for Justice & Human Rights, Cook's charity of choice, lists its goals as paving the way for "just and peaceful world by partnering with human rights leaders, teaching social justice and advancing corporate responsibility."
