iWatch Possible to Debut At Sept. 9 Apple Event

Aug 27 2014 10:01PM EST | Source: MacLife.com

If you're sick of all the "iWatch" rumors that have clogged the Apple news pipeline for what seems like years now, take heart — it might all be over on September 9. According to sources who spoke with Re/code, at least, that's the day when Apple will at last officially announced its highly anticipated piece of wearable tech.

That's also the day, of course, when we're supposed to hear about the two new iPhones, which means we're in for a more exciting media event than we've had in some years. (Previously, the word among Apple rumormongers was that we wouldn't hear about iWatch until a separate media event held in October — or worse yet, until sometime in 2015.)

All Re/code's sources say is that Apple will reveal a piece of "wearable tech" at this event, and at this point, it's not even clear if it's going to be called the iWatch. One of Apple's patent applications for the device, after all, referred to it as "iTime." The device will reportedly work in tandem with iOS 8's HealthKit platform, and HomeKit, too, will play a noteworthy role in its day-to-day use.

September 9 isn't that far away, which means that if this new rumor has any weight to it, we should start seeing the invitations any day now. As for the October event? It's now thought that Apple will reserve it for new models from its iPad and MacBook lines.
