Russian Team Reportedly Makes Working 'iPhone 6' from Leaked Parts

Aug 29 2014 11:11PM EST | Source: MacLife.com

We've heard endless stories about leaked parts for the iPhone 6 over the last couple of weeks, but the Feld & Volk team in Russia apparently took these leaks to the next logical step and built their own iPhone 6 with them. Something about the audaciousness of the project seems more exciting than finding a iPhone 4 in a Redwood City bar.

You can watch the full video made by Feld & Volk via the YouTube link below. Specifically, the team used a leaked case, a logic board, a display, a true-tone flash and camera, and they then hooked up the finished creation to a Mac to see what would happen. Surprisingly enough, it actually booted up, but it wouldn't connect to Apple's update servers.

In their coverage, 9to5Mac adds some healthy skepticism to the news. When the device boots up, for instance, you briefly see a gear icon that currently isn't a part of any iOS programming. The site also points out that iOS 8 actually has a red and white iTunes logo as opposed to the familiar blue and white one we see in the logo, which may cast some further doubts on the authenticity of the actually programming we see. The parts themselves, they claim, appear to be genuine.

All in all, the buildup to this year's iPhone event is starting to sound just like last year's.
